Save the analysis results for optimisation of STAAD model

There is need to additional features of optimization of BU members which is not addressed by The STAAD SELECT and SELECT OPTIMISE commands -

There should be 3 commands -

  1. Perform only analysis

  2. Perform only design (on the basis of previously saved analysis results)

  3. Perform both analysis and design.

There will be need to create separate analysis output file and design output file.

STAAD should be able to save the previous analysis results and if we change any member properties, the member should be checked for previously saved member forces and provide the utilization ratios. This will lead to considerable saving in time required for optimization of structure. Even though it is evident that changing the member properties will affect stiffness of structure and lead to redistribution of forces, unless there are major changes in the structure the new forces will not deviate significantly from the first analysis.

Further the analysis results should not get deleted unless the loading, specification, geometry of STAAD model is getting changed. If possible there should be option to change design parameter as well without affecting the analysis results.

    Thank you for posting this idea. I think you would agree that STAAD already offers two of the three options you have suggested. That is today STAAD can perform an analysis only solution. Simply add a FINISH statement after the analysis command. It can do a design check or selection depending on the commands specified.

    It is the third option only that needs to be added which is perform a deign check or selection using analysis results that already exist from a previous successful run. That is decouple the design from the analysis.

    We do have this already in our backlog and are working on a solution that will offer this as a new process.
