Staad.Pro: calculation because of creating new group

When I create a new group - for example, from some beams, it is always necessary to perform a recalculation, but nothing changes in the structure - so the stiffness matrix is the same - and nothing changes in the loads - so the load vector is the same. By creating a new group, I only expand the selection options, nothing more. This recalculation of the same thing unnecessarily delays. Is there any real reason why this recalculation of the structure is necessary? Because if not, I would suggest canceling it as an unnecessary step.

Thank you for posting this idea. As you are aware, it is very important that the results that are reported are consistent to the STAAD file that is processed. It is true that some modifications in the input file don't directly impact the results, but it would mean the output file and results are out of sync with the STAAD input data. We are working on a project that will provide options to perform designs independently from the full analysis so it will be possible to iterate designs changing design attributes without having to re run the analysis. I anticipate more information on this will be announced later this year. In the meantime, you should notice that in STAAD.Pro 2026, if a change is made that does impact the data, you are now offered an option to retain the results , It is then your responsibility to ensure that once all he necessary changes have been implmented, a new analysis is performed to ensure that the datafile and results are in sync.

I whole heartedly agree with you. I don't know how many times I've been looking at results and realized it would be nice to group something so I can get a better understanding of what's going in a certain area or whatever only to have to rerun the model just because I defined a new group. This is insanity. You got my vote.
