Welcome to the STAAD.Pro Ideas portal. The purpose of this site is to post ideas for enhancements and new features. We value your feedback and our team regularly reviews your suggestions for consideration in future releases.
You have 3 options for providing feedback:
Vote for an existing Idea. The popularity of an Idea helps us understand its importance to our users.
Comment on an existing Idea. We want to hear your unique point of view.
Add a new Idea. If no existing Idea describes what you would like, add a new one!
When you Vote, Comment, or Add an idea you will also be subscribed to that Idea and will receive status updates. Please note that we may merge or rename Ideas for clarity. Thank you for your support and feedback, it is always appreciated!
We already provide this capability by creating a profile in the Section Wizard module, e.g.
Not only wide flange members but also add tapered section (3 plated elements with constant flange width) with standard channel section as this section are very widely used in PEB industry for gantry girder design.
I have attached the section for example.
Please can you provide the information as requested otherwise the idea will be closed.
Thank you for posting this idea. Perhaps you can elaborate on this idea a little. I think you are suggesting that this is an addition to the current range of parameters that can be assigned to a standard wide flange which currently has options such as TC for adding a top cover plate, then dimensions added for the plate. So there are lots of considerations to account for when suggesting combining different profiles such as 1) the channel can be from a standard database table and if so can this be from another database? or just basic dimensions such as width, height, flange thickness and web thickness?
2) If this is designed to say AISC 360 or EN 1993, then a new set of design rules will need to be implemented to account for the new combined profile.
3) What should happen when STAAD is tasked to select the profile with the SELECT or SELECT OPTIMISE? Does the channel change or remain the same. It would seem that the channel should remain constant, but the wide flange change size.
I renamed the title of the idea to better reflect the specific requirement.
