I work in the water/wastewater industries and we use stainless quite often. Our designs include angles, wide flanges, hollow structural tubes, and channels. Piping not so much.
Can you provide any kind of status update? My colleagues and I are very interested in adding this feature as we work in the water/wastewater industry.
To reiterate, we would generally utilize W, C, L and HSS shapes in our designs.
Thank you for providing more details on the requirements. What is most important is knowing the profiles/shapes that you actually use on projects and would need to have supported by any solution offered. Clearly if your project uses stainless steel structural members then those are the shapes we would target. Those that are rarely used, if ever part of your structural model, then they would be in the 'nice to have' category and would be in the 'may do' part of any implementation.
It is really limited to availability; we would use more Wide flanges and Channels if they are available. Welded shapes listed in Aisc Design Guide 27 would also be useful.
I would add channels and w-flanges. Either rolled shapes from the mill or welded shapes as listed in tables 4-1 and 4-3A of AISC Design Guide 27.
Thank you for adding your vote to have this design code added to STAAD.Pro. Do you also think it is angles and HSS shapes that are key?
Stainless Steel is being used more in Water and wastewater treatment facilities; this would be a nice addition to STAAD.Pro
Thank you for the clarification. The use case is thus it is for marine structures.
In my industry we use stainless steel for submerged structures and occasionally some bridges. We'd use all of the different shape profiles. Angles and HSS are probably the most common, but there would be an need to use all of them.
Thanks for posting your idea. This idea will be added to the backlog, however can you describe a little of the context you would be using stainless steel profiles and the range of shapes you would be using, wide flange, HSS, angle etc?
